America the Free and home of the...

Well I guess it's safe to say that freedom of speech only extends to speech that can be understood by us silly gringo's .

With all that is wrong with the world we have paid public employees wasting time trying to suspend a student who was speaking Spanish in school. Well I guess along with cutting funds for music and arts, we should probably remove all foreign language classes from the educational system. I mean, what's the point of being cultured and having respect for other countries, WE'RE AMERICANS...DAMN IT

I'm not a business man, I'm a business...man

Well, the employment drought is over. This morning at midnight I started my new full time job as a crisis counselor. Third shift at the crisis center I'm answering phones and what not. This of course means that I am staying in the Jacktown a little longer... yes the nomad may have grown roots, ok not really, but for now I am staying put. Now I wish I hadn't moved out of my apt, let the hunt begin.
On other job fronts, I have also taken on freelancing full time as well. I am doing scripts for a place in Chicago and media consulting for a guy here in town as well as random other video/misc. that comes up. So from unemployed to over-employed in about two weeks.

On the personal front, I had a good thanksgiving. I got to spend time with my niece who is too much.
Isn't she adorable (disagreeing may be bad for you health, because I will find you). Greens, stuffing, yams, turkey, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and a bottle of hot sauce, now that's something to be thankful for. All in all, things are looking good, I just have to adjust to the whole third shift thing.

The Present is a Gift

So I took this photo a while ago, and found it online again. And it seems to fit the current state of my life. To quote Common, "Never looking back, or too far in front of me, the present is a gift and I just want to be..." I'm getting rather tired of worrying about what the next move will be and being upset over being fired. Well, I'll never be unupset, but it's done and over. So I am going to enjoy the present for what it is.

Speaking of enjoying, I got the greatest phone call ever last night. I'm working on line and my phone rings a Mass. number. Given the amount of jobs I apply for, I have to answer. Luckily I did, my lovely staff (first year) from the 'Cuse were having a reunion and decided to include me. As down and out as I have felt, it was a GREAT pick me up. It's good to know you are loved...AND I LOVE ALL OF YOU, thanks for the call.

So switching subjects completely, well back to the subject, it's time for a Dan rant... In talking to my mother today, I found out my brother was locked up. Why you may ask, because he didn't pay his child support.

This rant isn't going where you think it is, this one is for the ladies. If you and the father of your child are living together, and he spends more money and time on the child than you do... cancel the F***ing child support. This wench, (I'm struggling to be nice here) wants my brother to pay for everything at the Apt, plus thild support, so she has spending money... that my friends is what I call a hood bitch. 90% of what my brother earns goes to her. He cuts his finger (damn near off)and is waiting for Workman's comp, and this bitch has the nerve to have him locked up. I can hear it, why is he with her, because if he leaves, she'll take my niece away. I know there are plenty of dead beat dads out there (I have one), but if a man is taking care of his, living with you and supporting the child, don't be a bitch and force him to pay child support. Grow up and realize that the system is for those who ditch responsibility, not those who embrace it... and I'm spent.

Ok, off to work...stop laughing, I have to look for work and do a few small projects.

Is my self pride
So these streets I strive
Like a Black Panther
Asking can the
situation get much worst"

2004 Hyundai Elantra BLVD.

Well as of yesterday, I have a new address. Much similar to the time I spent living at 1995 Ford Escort Way, I am now a nomad again. I have numerous couches to crash on, but I am officially homeless and unemployed. The job search goes well, but man, I feel more and more like a mooch and bum everyday. Hopefully something will come up soon, but until then, honk of you see my mobile home.

On the up side, Halloween at the bar was fun, well the end of the evening. We started out with a polka band...cute but annoying. After they were done, tea debauchery began. Costumes galore, hell one guy spent $1050 on a spidey outfit. It looked good but not that good.

Here's me in a blond wig (I came as OJ and left as a blonde...discuss)

It was a good night, and all the little ghouls behave themselves

Ah ha, hush that fuss, everybody move to the back of the bus

An Icon has passed. Fifty years ago a woman of great courage and tired legs refused to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus. She knew the repercussions and decided that this was the battle she was going to fight. At 42 Rosa Parks sparked the Civil Rights movement by simply saying no. NO to segregation, NO to injustice, NO to discrimination and YES to Civil Rights.

Mrs. Parks died yesterday at 92 in Detroit. You might not know this, you may be shocked to hear this. While I have been away from the TV all day, in looking through internet headlines, there is barely any mention. MSN, in little print, CNN, under "other news", NY times... nothing. The Detroit Free Press is the only site I've seen thus far with a front page write up. Is that the only place that cares?

"Diamonds are forever" that's my ring tone, that's what I heard right before I found out, and I agree. Rosa Parks is and was a Diamond for all those who have benefited from Civil Rights. (that would be all of you) Do not let her legacy and spirit die with her body. Don't move her to the back of the bus...

Budget Cuts

So a two weeks ago I was fired, on a holiday no less. (Columbus Day) The reason...budget cuts, which really translates to "Dan you argue too much, and need to accept that doing things the right way is out of the question" Yeah fire the two guys who actually run the station, and keep the sheep who will do what ever you want...good business plan.

Ohh well, it has allowed me to try some new things. I've picked up bartending again. Plus became an unemployed drunkard (at the same bar) I call it financial recycling. Get paid from a shift and then drink for cheap with the money all night. And then there was the tailgating at CMU...Yes that's a golf club being used to flip hot coals.

I've managed to to get into internet design.

And I've realized that daytime TV is as useless as I thought. Though I have seen more food network than I thought possible.

Well I have a job interview in the morning so I bid you adieu...

People...It's a Book

Ok, So if you haven't read the Di Vinci Code, and you want to, I would suggest you stop reading now...

You've been warned.

In this article there is a discussion on what Ron Howard and team can do to appease Christians and Catholics in the production the Di Vinci Code. Appease them, half the world has already read the book, which is noted as FICTION.

This is story created by a man who took the time to do a little research and write a damn good novel. Is it true, who knows, IT'S FICTION. I cannot believe that they have actually suggested changing the overall premise, softening the blows to faith and removing Opes Dei. (yes the do exist) I think the next Christian movie should just remove all references to the ark, we wouldn't want PETA to get upset. Or maybe LPA should have the representation of Little People in "Lord of the Rings".

I do understand being PC, respecting differences and not trying to intentionally offend groups, but this I think is a bit much. If you've read the book, you know what to expect. You know the implecations it makes about religion and you're waiting to see how well they translate to screen. Your opinion won't be swayed by seeing the movie as it should be.

If you are one of those "I'll wait for the movie or cliffnotes" type... first of all, read, it stimulates your brain and If you plan on voting, driving or drinking, you should have a functioning brain. (Back to the original rant) If you haven't read it, I still don't believe you are going to walk out thinking, "damn hoodwinked again".

And if these people are so concerned with representations of groups in film...where are there denoucements of blackface, using whites to play ethnic roles (Wonder Woman and Xena are some pretty pale women from the AMAZON). Not to mention the role of Arabs and other minorities in film over the past few decades.

I have no closing argument, just wanted to offer thoughts to ponder...
